Booklet PC from Microsoft was codenamed Microsoft Courier. This new stylish booklet pc has dual touch-screens that faced each other in a booklet form factor. Stylus is also provided to be utilized and sensitive finger touch for input. Even if Microsoft announced that they are working with the product, they said that they will not yet release the gadget to the public. Insert conspiracy theory here.
The device would have set up like a book, with the seven-inch screens facing each other when the “booklet” was closed. The final Model for this booklet pc would have an inductive charging pad that uses the electromagnetic field for charging batteries without plugging it. The outer part hinge of this booklet pc will contain wireless signal and battery strength indicators, and a home button to interact with the system while booklet is closed and not in used. Touch input and handwriting recognition are the only input source of this gadget since it does not have an external keyboard available.
The core operating system of this booklet pc was said to be a specialized version of Microsoft Windows CE. But, the Courier will not permit installation of common Windows applications to the system. Applications and software that should be installed in the gadget will be designed specifically for the Courier’s booklet form factor. In addition, there are some reports that Microsoft will install front-side video camera for live video conferencing (via Microsoft messenger) on the left side of the booklet so that users can edit documents or take notes on the right side of the gadget.
The system was largely developed outside the usual development channels, reports said. This project also was only known by a small number of developers. Microsoft Courier is considered as in the “incubation” stage, far from the “research” project and not yet in the commercial pipeline.
Let us wait if this technology will ever come out of the gate. Most of the technical features of the booklet PC are being performed already by lots of computing machines. If Microsoft is too slow to release this stuff, Apple might take over this tech, introduce a new device with exactly the same feature set plus the added feature of disintegration into molecules if the user puts away the machine.
